“We miss being together–and know the power communities unlock when they come together. As sheltering-in-place continues, it’s incumbent on us to uncover new methods of producing premium, communal experiences from our homes. What better way to start than with one of the boldest Asian legends, Mulan; a cross-continental cast; and a legion of partners devoted to reimagining the theatre experience while doing good for the community,” Brian Nemes, Head of #GoldOpen Operations, said on behalf of Gold House and CAPE.

#GoldOpen Premier Access arms Mulan fans with a slate of experiences that bring a premium theatre-going experience into their households that can all be reached at www.linktr.ee/goldopen or on community partner sites:

  • Live Twitter screening parties each day of opening weekend followed by cast Q&As that will be streamed from fb.com/goldhouseco, fb.com/cape, and more community organization Facebook Pages. Times are below.

  • Limited edition Mulan and Mulan-inspired products from Disney and Asian American Girl Club (asianamericangirlclub.com)

  • Chinatown and Chinatown-inspired products to support local enclaves from Pearl River Mart (pearlriver.com)

  • Local Chinese restaurant deals and food in lieu of theatre concessions (pearlriver.com)

“The story of Mulan, filled with bravery, love of family, resourcefulness, and a struggle to find one’s place in the world, is one that resonates deeply with many of us, especially immigrants and children of immigrants, in the Asian American community,” said Joanne Kwong, president of Pearl River Mart, the historic NYC Asian American “friendship store” founded in 1971. “Our communities are hurting in so many ways right now, and Mulan reminds us to keep fighting for those who came before us–by supporting our resilient Chinatowns, preserving culture and traditions, and celebrating the food that connects us, family to family.”

Mulan is the first Disney+ film to debut with Premier Access. Starting September 4, with Premier Access, you can watch “Mulan” before it’s available to all Disney+ subscribers. Disney+ will offer Premier Access to “Mulan” for $29.99 on disneyplus.com and select platforms. ABOUT DISNEY’S MULAN

Acclaimed filmmaker Niki Caro brings the epic tale of China’s legendary warrior to life in Disney’s “Mulan,” in which a fearless young woman risks everything out of love for her family and her country to become one of the greatest warriors China has ever known. When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father. Masquerading as a man, Hua Jun, she is tested every step of the way and must harness her inner-strength and embrace her true potential. It is an epic journey that will transform her into an honored warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation…and a proud father.

“Mulan” features a celebrated international cast that includes: Yifei Liu as Mulan; Donnie Yen as Commander Tung; Tzi Ma as Zhou, Jason Scott Lee as Böri Khan; Yoson An as Honghui; Ron Yuan as Sergeant Qiang; with Gong Li as Xianniang and Jet Li as the Emperor. The film is directed by Niki Caro from a screenplay by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver and Lauren Hynek & Elizabeth Martin, suggested by the narrative poem “The Ballad of Mulan.” The producers are Chris Bender, Jake Weiner and Jason Reed, with Bill Kong, Barrie M. Osborne, Tim Coddington and Mario Iscovich serving as executive producers.
