The Asian Arts & Culture Center at Towson University presents the Asian in Maryland (AIM) Cultural Connection: Cambodian Arts & Culture with an exhibition, Family Art Day, dance and music performances and a costume-making workshop. The events take place at the Center for the Arts located on the campus of Towson University at the corner of Osler and Cross Campus Drive. Visit the Asian Arts & Culture Center and encounter the beauty, history, meanings, and transformations of an ancient Cambodian tradition in the lives of musicians, dancers, and community members in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC. Discover the intricacies of the musical, theatrical, dance, educational and spiritual dimensions of this art form and explore how it continues to thrive in the contemporary world.

 

Admission is free.
Gallery Hours during exhibition: Monday – Saturday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Encounter a world of hypnotic, elegant dance and music with roots in Cambodia’s ancient Angkor Empire. Dancers and musicians of Maryland’s own Cambodian Buddhist Society share their exquisite and time-honored art form with this program of traditional and contemporary works. This event is part of the Asian Arts & Culture Center’s new series, The Asia in Maryland (AIM) Cultural Connection, featuring local Asian American communities and their artistic and cultural work. Tickets: $15 regular price, $10 for AA&CC members and students

 

Community Event: FAMILY ART DAY

FREE and open to the public! Think, make and live art through drop-in art activities, performances, interactive gallery experiences, and story time, all inspired by current exhibitions. Visitors of all ages welcome! Hands-on Cambodian jewelry making with master artist Sochietah Ung. Made possible by a generous grant from the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation.

Dancers and musicians of the Cambodian American Heritage present a diverse repertoire from this captivating and vibrant art form that transcends historical and geographical boundaries. This event is part of the Asian Arts & Culture Center’s new series, The Asia in Maryland (AIM) Cultural Connection, featuring local Asian American communities and their artistic and cultural work. Workshop: Cambodian Classical Costume-Making Intensive

Join master costume-maker Sochietah Ung for a full-day exploration of the intricate costumes worn in Cambodian classical dance-drama. In collaboration with the TU Department of Theatre Arts and made possible through a generous grant from the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation.

$5 AA&CC members and non-TU students with valid ID
$10 regular price
Pre-registration is required with preference given to TU students.
