Weird Fashion Finds

By Jane Chun

We Asian Americans will stop at nothing to look beautiful. From double lid tapes and circle lenses we can be pretty innovative when it comes to fashion. Here are six more crazy beauty accessories you’ve never heard of – or maybe you already rock them…

1. Bang Extensions – For those who want fake hair without buying a straight on full wig can benefit from the bang extensions. These hair clip-ons will save time by giving you fake bangs made from either modacrylic or Japanese synthetic fibers. Even Jessica Simpson has a line of these. By clipping this hairpiece at the crown of your head, you can style the bangs to blend in with the rest of your hair, whether full straight frontal bangs or style the bangs to be side swept.

2. Tailly the Wagging Tail

2– Created by Shota Ishiwatari, this wearable tail is hooked onto a belt that has sensors to measure the user’s heart rate and thus wags when the user is excited. This is a fantasy come true for certain anime fans. Women (or men) could also wear these to parties or outings. Despite the high profile Tailly got from the blogosphere, the Tailly project is suspended due to lack of crowd funding.  However, Ishiwatari remains hopeful when he posted on the Tailly’s Facebook page, “I don’t give up Tailly project. I think we need to wait for the right moment. And we have to make a chance to commercialize by ourselves.  I want to prove my works is needed in the world. I hope it also result in restart of Tailly project.” Fans will have to wait or request this tail from the inventor himself.

3. Floral-Print Harem Pants AKA the Ajumma Pants – Even Urban Outfitters shares the same taste as the typical Korean mother tending her garden except here, they call it the harem pants. Who knew jammies would return after MC Hammer?

14. Granny Panties – Speaking of ajummas, did you know the granny panties are also making a comeback? These high waisted knickers are not just for the crowd who still wears them but clothing stores such as Modcloth and Topshop; which are geared towards the younger crowd are drawing new converts.

5. Chalkboard Arm Protectors – The vloggers behind the Eat Your Kimchi Youtube channel, Simon and Martina did a review on these handless gloves that are supposed to protect your arms or sleeves from getting chalk when writing up against the chalkboard. As Simon and Martina pointed out, most people would not want to lean their arm against the board when writing on it in the first place but these accessories can be useful in other areas such as doing artwork or preventing oil from getting on your clothes when cooking.

6. Melissa Incense + Karl Lagerfeld Ice Cream Cone Heels – It’s not everyday you see ice cream cones stuck to the back of your pumps. As part of The Melissa shoes and Karl Lagerfeld collaboration for their eco-friendly shoe line, the Ice Cream Cone Pumps are grabbing all the attention. Even Kelly Osbourne shares her love on her Instagram, wearing it with her jeans cuffed. These heels are sure to turn heads.
