Chinese Culture Institute Hosts Mid-Autumn Festival at Capital One Hall in Tysons, VA

The Chinese Culture Institute’s (CCI) is dedicated to promoting understanding of the traditional Chinese culture through programs in education, culture, language, business, and art.  This year, CCI is hosting the Mid-Autumn Festival on Saturday, September 17, 2022 to allow residents of the Greater Washington, D.C. metro region to take part in this honored tradition based on the legend of Chang’e, the Moon goddess in Chinese mythology.  The Mid-Autumn Festival is also known as the Moon Festival and has been celebrated in Chinese culture for centuries. Similar holidays exist in Japan, Vietnam, and other countries in East and Southeast Asia.

CCI’s unique festival will take guests on a journey to experience the rich cultures of China, Korea, Japan, and the Philippines and feature afternoon cultural activities that are free to the general public culminated by the evening Mid-Autumn Festival Concert with tickets for purchase.  The concert is dedicated to celebrating families and togetherness, along with the pursuit of harmony, joy, and unity. CCI’s celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival brings this annual tradition finally to the DMV, so attendees can be inspired and uplifted by the featured performances that showcase traditional Chinese, Korean, and Filipino music and culture in addition to viewing a beautiful display of Japanese culture.  “Bringing people together in our DMV area to share in the happiness of the Mid-Autumn Festival is essential to CCI’s mission as an advocate for keeping the cultural traditions of the past relevant for the future,” says Dr. Cindy Shao, Chair of the Chinese Culture Institute and President of the Asian American Chamber of Commerce.

The “Business Together – Celebrate Unity in Diversity” Reception held prior to the Festival Concert from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in The Gallery of the Capitol One Hall welcomes leaders in the local business community to gather together in oneness of spirit to celebrate our “Unity in Diversity.” CCI strives to be a catalyst for unifying area businesses to promote greater collaboration through cultural events, such as the Mid-Autumn Festival. It’s CCI’s mission in motion that expands our program reach to all segments within our community.

The complimentary Cultural Activities from 2:00 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. will include distinguished practitioners of Chinese Medicine to offer complimentary consultations, Asian cuisine vendor with food for purchase, along with family-friendly arts and crafts and dragon dance that are sure to be both educational and fun-filled. Those attending the Festival Concert from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. will be treated to a true “Celebration of Asian Culture” that is not to be missed.

The featured performing groups include Taiwanese Chamber Orchestra of District of Columbia, JUB Cultural Center, Feitian College Middletown Dance Department, Julia MeiXuan Music Studio, and Musica at Moda. CCI looks forward to sharing the cultural traditions and music of China, Korea, and the Philippines as we usher in the fall season during our Mid-Autumn Festival.
