Washington, DC – DC Asian American Film, Inc. (APA Film) is pleased to announce the 15th annual DC APA Film Festival on April 16-19, 2015.

This year’s Opening Night presentation, on Thursday, April 16th is UNDER THE BLOOD RED SUN. This is the film adaptation of Graham Salisbury’s award-winning novel of the same name, which is required reading in many middle and high schools across the United States. It is set in 1941 and is the story of a 13-year-old Japanese boy, Tomi Nakaji, his family and his best friend (a Caucasian boy) at the time of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

“We are so proud of hitting our milestone of 15 years. Our lineup of films, filmmakers attending, and partnerships with local businesses and organizations are extremely befitting for this anniversary. We also have some great launch events with partnerships with Washington Film Institute and the Woolly Mammoth Theatre to allow a unique insight into the Asian American arts and cinema and provide a rare opportunity to view great films and performances,” said Executive Director Christian Oh.

Closing the 2015 DC APA Film Festival will be THE DESCENDANTS on April 19th.

THE DESCENDANTS directed by Yaser Talebi, is a beautifully poignant feature length film from Iran, which follows the journey of one father who is searching for his son as he travels and encounters the ups and downs in being in a foreign country (Sweden). Also screening during the festival is THE REAL MIYAGI, a documentary film about the life of master Fumio Demura, the man that’s influenced a bevy of Hollywood’s elite over the last 50 years. It was the stunt double role that he landed in The Karate Kid and the friendship he formed with actor, Pat Morita that would forever change his life. Mr. Morita fashioned his unforgettable character, Mr. Miyagi, off of Master Demura, which earned Pat Morita an Oscar Nomination in 1985.

The film festival will be showing more than 25 short films and features from April 16-19. Please visit the festival website at http://www.apafilm.org for a full line up of film and special events.

The DC APA Film Festival is a 501(c)(3) with a mission to bring attention to the creative output from APA communities and encourage the artistic development of APA films in the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan region.
