MAI Presents ‘Triple Delight’

Musical Arts International, Inc. will present its fall concert, “Triple Delight,” on November 22, Sunday, at 3 p.m. at the Calvary Lutheran Church. The church is located at 9545 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20910. The concert features violinist Jonathan Carney, concert master of Baltimore Symphony, cellist Pei Lu and pianist Li-Ly Chang.

Concertmaster Jonathan Carney begins his eighth season with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, after 12 seasons with London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He was also appointed concertmaster of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in 1994 and the Basque National Orchestra in 1996. His violin is the 1687 Stradivarius, the Mercur-Avery on which he uses “Vision” strings by Thomastik-Infeld. Carney’s string sponsor is Connolly Music, exclusive U.S. importer of Thomastik-Infeld strings.

Cellist Pei Lu had her Artist Diploma from Peabody Institute. She is an active soloist and chamber musician. Li-Ly Chang has studied with master pianists of our time: Sacha Gorodnitzki, Leon Fleisher, Sequeira Costa, Fernando Laires, Walter Hautzig and Jack Winerock. She has performed at the Dame Myra Hess Series, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center and Strathmore Hall. She has given master classes and lecture recitals in George Washington University and Savannah on Stage Festival, among other things.

The concert program includes Beethoven Trio op1, no3, Arensky Trio in D minor, Schumann Fantasiestucke for cello and piano op73. Tickets are: Adult, $20; student/senior, $15.
