AAHC aids health care in Howard County
The Asian American Healthcare Center (AAHC), a non-profit, volunteer organization located in Howard County will be holding its first health fair on Oct. 11. AAHC aims to help uninsured and low-income Asian Americans in Maryland receive healthcare as well as information on illness prevention and maintenance of wellness, starting in Howard County. Through free health fair screenings and partnerships with local health institutions and government, AAHC will provide competent healthcare in the languages of Korean, Chinese and Vietnamese in an attempt to break down barriers that Asian American patients face.
AAHC was formed to facilitate the transition of newly-arrived Asian Americans to life in the U.S. by focusing on their health needs. The growing Asian American population in Howard County faces barriers economically and linguistically when it comes to health care, and by linking members of this population with resources and providing supplemental services, AAHC aims to aid Asian Americans.
AAHC is a volunteer organization, thus, 100% of the donations are allocated to AAHC programs. The starting estimated annual budget is $145,000 and will increase as it serves more people. AAHC is organized like any non-profit organization with a Board of Directors, officers and working committees that are governed by AAHC by-laws.The Board of Directors is comprised by 31 members who represent the diverse perspectives of the Asian American community. The volunteer doctors and nurses are licensed and currently practicing. The volunteers who provide support services have years of experience in their respective fields and/or undergo extensive training.
