Conference on Immigration Policies and Development on Oct. 10
The Conference on Immigration Policies and Develoment: New Perspectives, will be held on Friday, October 10 at the Phillips Collection in Washington DC.
According to organizers, this one-day conference will address the underestimated synergy between immigration and socio-economic development of U.S. in innovative, multi-disciplinary way. Distinguished speakers from best universities, think-tanks, non-profits, local governments and advocacy groups will approach the issue from global, regional and local perspective and will examine its economic, legal, political, social, cultural, anthropological and other dimensions.
The Conference is a joint effort of a group of experts and scientists under the leadership of GRL (Global Regional Local) Development, an expert‐based organization working in favor of sustainable human development and transferring global and regional solutions to the local settings.
Some of the speakers include: Larry Hajime Shinagawa, Ph.D., Director of Asian American Studies Program and Associate Professor of American Studies at the University of Maryland and Lily Qi, well-known social activist, Commissioner of Maryland Governor's Commission for Asian‐Pacific American Affairs and President of the DC Organization of Chinese Americans (DCOCA).
The Chinese Diaspora will be presented during the first session: The situation of Chinese Diaspora in U.S. – its characteristics, aspirations, present status and perspectives of successful integration and development, by Prof. Larry Shinagawa.
This project (as a part of the series devoted to the quality of life in America) is expected to make an important step in advancing efforts of all newcomers and their organizations, local, state and federal governments and governmental agencies, businesses and people working towards their support having a common goal in prosperity and socio‐economic development of the country and its citizens.
