Assemblywoman Ellen Young Receives Endorsement of Working Families Party
WFP Committed to Young’s Re-Election to the NYS Assembly in 2008

New York - Democratic Assemblywoman Ellen Young, New York’s first Asian American woman to serve in the State Legislature, has received the endorsement of the Working Families Party in her bid for re-election.

“It’s an honor to receive the endorsement of the Working Families Party in my campaign for re-election.  The families of Flushing gave me the greatest honor and responsibility a year and a half ago when they elected me to serve them in the Assembly.   Together, we have accomplished so much, from increasing funding for vital programs and services in the community to passing four new laws in Albany that protect seniors and working families.  But more work remains and that’s why I am seeking re-election - and I am so happy to have the support of the Working Families Party,” said Young.

Since 1998, the Working Families Party has been on the forefront of progressive politics in New York State, leading fights for increases in the minimum wage, universal healthcare, and fair property tax relief.  The WFP received 155,184 votes on Row E in 2006 during the race for Governor.

“We’ve worked hard around the state to elect a legislature that will stand up for working families,” said Bob Master, Working Families Party Co-Chair.  “Our members met with Assemblywoman Young and made a unanimous decision to endorse her based on her commitment and record on issues that matter to working- and middle-class New Yorkers.  Assemblywoman Young is on the side of working families in the fights for fair property tax relief, paid family leave, and clean elections.  We look forward to continuing to work with Ellen to achieve these badly needed reforms in Albany. ”

This is the second major political endorsement for Assemblywoman Young following the May 2008 Democratic Organization of Queens County nomination. For more information about the WFP, visit the Web site at www.workingfamiliesparty.org.
