MVMA Seeks Interns for its Service
Programs
Located in the DC Metropolitan Area,
Maryland Vietnamese Mutual Association (MVMA)seeks
undergraduate or graduate students who are interested in working with the
Vietnamese American community in Maryland. While its special commitment is to
advocate for the cause of Vietnamese Americans, it also serves all immigrant
communities.
Responsibilities
of an Intern: Interns’ primary responsibilities are to assist MVMA staff with
organizing community and cultural events, compiling research and statistic
data, providing direct immigration and referral services to our clients,
participating in advocacy work, and doing general administrative duties; must
be able to make a 10-week commitment for 35 hours per week.
Benefits: Interns
will be given the opportunity to meet and network with local, state, and
national non-profit organizations and leaders in the D.C. metropolitan area.
Academic credits are available upon request. A $2,000 stipend is available to
be disbursed bimonthly. Upon completion, interns are awarded an additional
$500.

Prince George’s County Offers Free
Shredding, Recycling
LARGO, MD–The Prince George’s County
Department of Environmental Resources (DER) will sponsor a free Multi-Source
Reduction and Recycling Event for residents to safely dispose of their
household hazardous waste, shred their sensitive documents, and recycle old
electronic equipment.
The event,
sponsored by DER’s Recycling Section, will be held on
June 2, Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Friendly High School, 10000 Allentown Road in Fort Washington. (For details, please contact the

“This is a great
opportunity for citizens and residents to recycle the extra materials they
accumulate around their home and garage while doing something positive for the
environment,” said DER Director Charles W. Wilson.
Residents can
bring up to five tall kitchen bags filled with sensitive documents to be
shredded at the event. Residents may
witness their documents being destroyed.
Household
hazardous waste materials accepted at the event include oil-based paints,
pesticides, used motor oil, antifreeze, household cleaners, automotive and
household batteries, solvents and photographic chemicals. All items should be properly labeled and
brought for disposal in their original, sealed containers. Commercial, medical
or industrial waste will not be accepted.
Citizens and
residents may also bring their unwanted electronic equipment to the event for
recycling. Acceptable items include CPUs, keyboards, mainframes, computer speakers,
copiers, surge protectors, monitors, CD players, telephone systems, fax
machines, cell phones, laptop computers, scanners, pagers, wire and VCRs. Software, stereo speakers and commercial
waste will not be accepted. Only
non-commercial vehicles will be allowed access to the event site.
