Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program Recognizes Local Students for Leadership, Academic Achievement and Community Service

Washington, D.C. -- The Comcast Foundation is awarding five local high school seniors from the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia and Montgomery, Prince George’s and Frederick Counties in Maryland with $1,000 scholarships. Comcast’s Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program recognizes students’ leadership skills, academic achievement and commitment to community service. The Program is one of the Comcast Foundation’s signature community investment programs, helping local students defray rising college costs.

A commitment to community service is an essential component to each recipient’s selection. This year’s winners have volunteered, for example, at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and at daycare centers for homeless children.  Each award recipient is an excellent example of a well-rounded student who demonstrates talent and ability intellectually, athletically and socially.  Comcast worked with high school principals, guidance counselors, and administrators to select the recipients, all of whom are continuing their education at four-year institutions across the country.

In the seven years since the Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program began, it has awarded more than $7.5 million in college aid to more than 7,500 students.  The program is managed by Scholarship Program Administrators – an independent, not-for-profit organization that manages corporate and corporate foundation scholarship programs.

This year’s Comcast of the District recipients are: Nishina Nambiar of Sherando High School; Eunice Chung of Heritage High School; Jihyun Kim of Emmanuel Christian School; Joyce Min of Battlefield High School; Atheeth Hiremath of Tuscarora High School.

“Comcast is proud to acknowledge the success and potential of such outstanding student leaders, all of whom are preparing for the next step in their educational careers,” said Curt Pendleton, regional senior vice president for Comcast’s Potomac Region. “These students truly embody Comcast’s belief in giving back to the communities where you live and work. They deserve our recognition and applause for their tremendous achievements.”
