Montgomery County GIS Manager Apollo Teng Honored by Government Computer News
Apollo
Teng, Montgomery County’s Geographic Information
Systems (GIS) Manager, received national recognition recently as a winner of the 2007 Government Computer News (GCN)
IT Leadership Awards. The
GCN IT Leadership Awards recognize a distinguished group of individuals
each year from federal, state and local governments for their inspiration,
innovation and enthusiasm in the field of government information technology. GCN announced the awards in its magazine, as well as on
its web site, GCN.com. The complete article can be viewed on-line at:

“GIS in an important part of County Government,” said Mike Knuppel, Chief Technology Officer for Montgomery County. “We are extremely proud of
Apollo for this notable achievement.”
Teng was saluted by a distinguished
board of judges for his work in leading and implementing the County’s GIS
program. The judging panel was comprised of current and former federal IT
leaders and industry executives, as well as editors from GCN. The
panel selected ten individuals from the federal, state and local governments
for their outstanding work in the field of government information
technology. Apollo Teng was the only County Government employee among the ten
individuals selected to receive this honor.
“The 2007 GCN IT Leadership Award winners deserve high praise for their
exemplary record of performance and leadership, resulting in extraordinary
delivery on mission,” said Wyatt Kash,
editor-in-chief of Government Computer News.
This year’s winners were selected from scores of
candidates who were nominated by colleagues, co-workers and, in some cases,
superiors. In reviewing the nominations, the panel looked for the
following criteria:
·
Exceptional accomplishments over a substantial period of
time in leading government information technology initiatives;
·
Ability to inspire co-workers to higher achievement; and
·
Degree to which candidates showed a penchant for taking
risks and innovation in tackling mission-related projects.
