Among Small Business Award Winners
RICHMOND, Virginia–My Lan Tran, Minority Business Program Manager with the City of Richmond’s Office of Minority Business Development, is among the eight individuals who received Small Business Awards in the region, the U.S. Small Business Administration announced recently.
The annual Small Business Awards Luncheon will take place here on May 18, in observance of National Small Business Week.
Ronald Bew, district director of SBA’s Richmond District Office, congratulated the winners. “The individuals we are honoring on May 18 are true champions of small business,” he said. “They represent the finest traits of American entrepreneurial spirit.”
Each year, the President of the United States designates one week as National Small Business Week in recognition of the small business community’s contribution to the American economy. The 2007 observance of National Small Business Week is April 23-24 in Washington, D.C. where more than 100 outstanding small business owners across the nation wide will be honored.
Virginia’s Small Business Week event will honor Virginia’s Small Business Person of the Year, along with seven other Small Business award winners.

Barnes, Jr., Executive Vice President, Branch Banking & Trust (BB&T),Winston-Salem, N.C.;2007 Virginia Home-based Small Business Champion of the Year: Crystal Sauls, President, Sauls International, Richmond, Virginia; 2007 Virginia Small Business Journalist of the Year: Kathryn Marie Harper, President/Publisher, Discovery Publications, Inc., Warrenton, Virginia; 2007 Virginia Veterans Small Business Champion of the Year: James B. Boyd, retired former Director, Southwest Virginia Community College SBDC, Richlands, Virginia.
