The Community Partners Conference, Asian Americans Building Power 11th Annual Summit took place at the Human Rights Campaign Building, Rhode Island in D.C. Asian American leaders across the US attended the summit on Oct. 16-17.


Pakistan president greets Asian American

Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf meets Filipino journalist Angelyn Tugado Marzan during his State Visit in Washington, DC late last month. His visit coincided with the release of his book, "In the Line of Fire, A Memoir" which Pakistan Ambassador to the United States Mahmud Ali Durrani describes it to be the story of Pakistan.

Scholarship to Virginia high school student.

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Foundation awarded the E. Wayne Kay High School Scholarship to Thao Phuong Do, who is pursuing an engineering course. The Foundation granted over $380,000 in 2006 scholarships to students pursuing careers in manufacturing, engineering and technology.

KORUS Korean Festival in Annandale, Virginia

About 5,000 people attended the KORUS Korean Festival held in early October in Annandale, Virginia. The event showcased Korean traditional dance performances, Royal Hanbok (Korean traditional dress) fashion show, Korean traditional percussion quartet, Taekwondo demonstrations and contest, music contests for families, final round of the telent scouting event by the SM Entertainment of korea, Korean legendary acrobat from the movie “King and the Clown”, “Taste of Korea” booths featuring varieties of Korean traditional foods. Bangladeshi Nobel Peace Reception.

From left: Peace lecturer and children’s author Sharmin Ahmad, Sabrine Ahmed Iqbal join Dr. Muhammad Yunus, who won the Nobel Peace Prize last October, at a reception. Behind Sharmin is Sabrine's mother Tasneem Ahmed. The Bangladesh community of Greater Metro D.C. hosted a reception honoring Yunus at the Waterford reception center in Springfield,Virginia on November 19. Over a thousand people came. Economist Yunus is the founder of Grameen bank, which lends credit to the poor without any collateral. Almost all the borrowers are women and their payback record is close to a hundred percent.
