Oakland President Pro Tempore Jean Quan Elected President of the Asian Pacific American Municipal Officials

Orlando, Fla. – Oakland, Calif., President Pro Tempore Jean Quanwas elected 2009 president of the Asian Pacific American Municipal Officials (APAMO) during its annual business meeting at the National League of Cities’ (NLC) Congress of Cities, held through November 15 in Orlando.

  Quan was the first Asian American woman elected to the Oakland City Council, where she chairs the Finance and Management Committee and serves on the Life Enrichment, Public Works, City-Schools Partnership and Public Safety Committees.

  Other officers elected during the APAMO business meeting include:

  • Vice President: Cupertino, Calif., Council Member Gilbert Wong

  • Secretary: Campbell, Calif., Council Member Evan Low

  • Immediate Past President: Sunnyvale, Calif., Council Member Otto Lee

 Established in 1985, APAMO is a constituency group of NLC. Its mission is to provide Asian Pacific American municipal officials and their colleagues with a forum to share ideas and develop leadership experience. It also serves as a vehicle for members to discuss problems and explore solutions, debate policy issues, and contribute to the success of American cities and towns.
