Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce Names New Executive Director

Rockville, MD – The Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. has named Mr. Shu-Ping Chan as its new Executive Director to manage the Chamber’s projects to raise membership awareness and funding to provide business opportunities for the region’s Asian Pacific American business community.

“We are very happy to have someone of Shu-Ping’s experience and commitment to further our mission,” said John Young, President of APACC.  “Shu-Ping has been working with the community for a dozen years and has extensive experience in community building, fundraising and business development.”

Mr. Chan succeeds Ms. Yen Chan, who will now be focusing her time on her family.  “We are grateful for Yen’s service as the first Executive Director for APACC and wish her continued successes in her business endeavors,” Young added.

Mr. Chan served as a community outreach manager for Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan and also as Asian Pacific American liaison for the State of Maryland during the administration of Gov. Parris N. Glendening.  Mr. Chan holds graduate degrees in law and in business administration.

“There are unique challenges facing not only businesses in the Asian Pacific American community, but in all communities which have not had the opportunity or history of fully participating in the business and civic affairs of American society,” said Chan.  “I hope APACC will play a role in providing full opportunities to all.”

Chan starts his new responsibilities immediately.
