Of special note are recipients of the first two awards: Ambassador Ellen Sauerbrey for opening the doors of the US to Burmese refugees who languished for 10 years in Thailand, waiting for a country to take them in. While many leaders talked about bringing them out, nothing happened, and no one did, except the US.

The other is a dentist and his wife, Dr. Saory & Khammaz Kong, survivors of the infamous Cambodian Killing Fields, who have quietly settled in Fairfax, VA and have served the minority community, e.g., Cambodian, Vietnamese, Filipinos, Hispanics and other immigrants. This award is at least 20 years late, but better late than never!

The awards ceremony will take place at the North Bethesda Marriott in Rockville, on Nov. 10, 2006. It starts at 6:30 PM. Those interested in coming should call the Asian American Business Roundtable (AABR) at 301-601-9038 or email aabr89@aol.com
