Frederick Community College, Frederick celebrates Frederick Chinese School Opening

– On September 9th, 2006, Frederick County Board of Education member
Kathryn Groth, Center for Peace Director Guy Djoken, and other members of the community joined Dr. Carol
Eaton, President of the Frederick Community College (FCC) and Dr. Jianwei Zhu, principal of the new school for the opening
ceremony of the Frederick Chinese School (FCS).The Chinese Embassy sent a message of support that was read during
the program. The new school will be hosted at the Frederick Community
College.
Dr.
Eaton, who took the time to interact one-on-one with all the people that came
to commemorate this event, expressed her satisfaction about the new partnership
between FCC and FCS and congratulated Mr. David Croghan,
FCC Dean of Continuing Education for working closely with Dr. Jianwei Zhu and other staff members to make this a
successful launching. The only regret she has was not having more classes to
dedicate to the program. Mrs. Kathryn Groth outlined
the benefits of such initiatives for the community and reminded participants
that the Frederick County Public
School has
just introduced the Chinese language this year in four county schools before
congratulating Dr. Jianwei Zhu and FCC for a
successful launching.
Dr. Jianwei Zhu thanked all participants for their support
before explaining the mission and vision of the new school who
is looking forward to provide cultural education to youth and adults as well as
promoting cultural exchange with other ethnical groups.
The
event gathered about 60 people who came from Frederick county, Montgomery County and Washington county.
