Leggett Urges Donations for Flood Relief Efforts

Noting the sufferings caused by recent floods in Pakistan and China, Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett has urged county residents “to support humanitarian efforts to save lives and help feed and shelter survivors by contributing to relief efforts.”

He mentioned the websites of organizations accepting donations. These are the UNICEF (www.unicefusa.org); American Red Cross (www.redcross.org); and the Department of State’s Pakistan Relief Fund, www.state.gov. He said others could also contribute to other charitable organizations of their choice.

Leggett also extended his condolences and sympathy for the many lives lost and for those affected by these disasters.

“While these events happened half-way around the globe, they inevitably affect our local communities as Montgomery County is home to residents from nearly every corner of the world,” he stressed. “Nearly one-third of our county residents were born outside of the U.S., with the Chinese and Pakistani communities among two major ethnic groups living and working here.”
