Brother and Sister Split $250,000 in MEGA Millions; Just One Number from Hitting the Jackpot

You might say that Mr. Thiem Quach of Fairfax played Mega Millions for dessert.  He went out for dinner one night, and then stopped next door to pick up a Mega Millions ticket.  That ticket turned out to be a $250,000 winner.

“I am happy because now I have money to pay bills, he told Virginia Lottery officials when he claimed the prize.  Mr. Quach split the prize with his sister, Ngoc Quach of Fairfax.
He purchased the ticket at the 7-Eleven at 6112-A Franconia Road in Alexandria for the June 23, 2006 drawing.  He selected his numbers at random.

The winning numbers for that drawing were 13-17-24-34-56 and the Mega Ball number was 24.  His ticket matched the first five numbers and only missed the Mega Ball number.

Mr. Quach, who is an electrical designer, said he does not yet have any plans for his part of the winnings.
