John Duong Files for Mayor of Irvine
IRVINE,
CA - John Duong, former Executive Director
of the White House Initiative for Asian
Americans and Pacific Islanders, filed for Mayor of
Irvine on August 11 with his family and supporters on hand at City Hall.
"I am humbled by the support that my
friends and neighbors have shown me as we begin this campaign," Duong
said.
"The Irvine City Council needs the undergo fundamental reform -- reform that will
strengthen representative government. Too often our current council's first
instinct is to conduct business behind closed doors. Irvine is a great city abd its leaders should
not fear public input, but should embrace it. As mayor, I pledge to conduct all
business in the light of day."
When asked about Duong's candidacy,
Asemblyman Chuck DeVore said, "John's strong experience in business and
government is just what we need right now in Irvine. He has the moral courage we need in our
elected leaders."
John Duong is a businessman and current
finance commissioner in the City of Irvine. In addition to working in the private
sector as executive vice president of a property management and investment firm
and founding his own small business consulting firm, Duong served as both a
gubernatorial and presidential advisor. Duong, a Vietnamese immigrant, recieved
an Executive MBA from the University of California at Irvine's Paul Merage School of Business and a
B.A. from the University of California, Davis. Additionally, Duong serves on the board
