Speaking Successfully
Sharon Heffley
It’s an exciting time at the Accent Modification Center. A recent
interview by an AP reporter spread the word about the program.
Also, they’re gearing up for the
next group program in September and October. This is a new type of program,
offered once before. The program is intensive- meeting a total of three weekend
days, 6 hours each day. In between classes, I will meet with students privately
by phone or Internet to work with them on their new skills. The class is limited
to six clients. It will be held in Reston or Arlington, location to be determined. The expected start dates are
September 15 and 16, and October 14.
In the next months, the
center plans to open two new on-site corporate programs. The first is their intensive
program held during the work week, which is not just for corporations. It may
include presentation skills for non-native speakers, as well as general
pronunciation improvement activities. They will work with them to meet their
needs. Another option is the ‘Once a Month’ program. The center currently makes
contracts with companies that require employees to attend once a month. Group
and/or private communication skills improvement work is also available. They
will work with companies to develop programs that meet the needs of employees.
The center’s ‘Distance’
programs are up and running. Web cams are the next best thing to being there,
and with gas over $3 a gallon, these clients save time and money.
