DC Mayor’s Office to Hold Diversity Job Fair

    

 (Washington, DC)  The Mayor's Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs (OAPIA) and the DC Office of Personnel (DCOP), in collaboration with Asian Fortune, JoongangUSA, KoreaTimes, Manila Mail, Pho Nho Weekly Newspaper, Vietnamese American Television and the District of Columbia Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority is hosting a DiverseCITY Job Fair: Promoting Career Opportunities For Asians And Pacific Islanders on Friday, September 8, 2006, to bring together bilingual job seekers and those with Limited English Proficiency with public and private sector employers.

The DiverseCITY Job Fair is part of OAPIA's continued efforts to ensure service delivery for Limited English Proficiency residents in the District and qualified bilingual professionals.  This DiverseCITY Job Fair is expected to attract more than 100 agencies from the District of Columbia and federal government, nonprofit organizations and for profit companies.  Last year, the job fair attracted more than 350 Asian bilingual job seekers from different parts of the metropolitan DC region.  For this year's attendance, over 500 job seekers are expected to attend the event, seeking employment in the service industry, technical, and professional sectors. 

The DiverseCITY Job Fair will be held at the National Building Museum located at 401 F Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001 (By Metro: Red Line, Judiciary Square Station, National Building Museum Exit), on Friday, September 8, 2006 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  It is expected that the event will be the largest job fair for attracting Asian and Pacific Islander job seekers in the metropolitan DC region.

Volunteers with Asian language skills are encouraged to register to provide language help, but such language skills are not necessary to help with other tasks.  Volunteers will be provided lunch and may receive school credit for volunteering.  Interested volunteers can register by contacting Ngoc Trinh at (202) 727-3120, ngoc.trinh@dc.gov or visiting www.apia.dc.gov.
