Senator Meets with Candidate Lee

Knightdale, North Carolina–Jun Lee, Knightdale North Carolina mayoral candidate, met on June 10 with U.S. Senator Kay Hagan (D, NC) to discuss several issues important to the state of North Carolina.

These issues include education and economic development, and the vital role immigrants and minorities like him play in their communities. During their meeting, which lasted about 45 minutes, Lee urged Senator Hagan to continue promoting these issues.

Lee, originally from Jeon Buk Province in South Korea, was particularly enthusiastic about furthering economic relations with South Korea. He cited South Korean automotive group Hyundai Kia, which recently built a major manufacturing plant in Alabama, and expressed its desire to build another plant in the U.S. soon.

Lee urged Senator Hagan to propose an incentive package to bring the second Hyundai Kia plant to North Carolina.

As an immigrant, Lee is concerned about the role immigrants and minorities play in the political arena. He expects more minorities to seek elective office to continue to break existing barriers.

Senator Hagan is no stranger to breaking barriers herself: she is the first female U. S. senator in North Carolina history. As such, she is showing support for Lee’s championship of cultural identity within all minority groups.
