Mayor Fenty Holds lst API Town Hall Meeting

WASHINGTON–Mayor Adrian Fenty held the first District’s Asian and Pacific Islander (API) Town Hall meeting at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library here on March 26.

The Town Hall meeting, held at 6 p.m.-8 p.m., focused on the following topics: Safety; Affordable Housing & Economic Development; Education; Health & Humans Services, and Access to government services and programs.

Asian American residents and merchants were afforded an opportunity to discuss issues and provide recommendations to the Mayor. Mayor Fenty used the same format as in the Pre-transition Town Hall meetings. Leaders were grouped in a round table. Each table had a representative as spokesperson for the group.

Participants included business owners and university students. For better communication, the Mayor's Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs (OAPIA), enlisted the help of bi-lingual volunteers in Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean and Vietnamese for those who were not English-proficient.
