Japan-America Society Holds Lecture
On ‘China-Japanese Rapprochement’

DALLAS , TX –The Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth has announced a lecture by Dr. Jing Huang, “Sino-Japanese Rapprochement: Challenges and Impact.” Jing Huang is a Senior Fellow in Foreign Policy Studies at the Brookings Institution and  author of “Factionalism in Chinese Communist Politics.” This program is the third in a three-part series on the Asian Triumvirate – Japan , China and Korea .

Dr. Huang will discuss the latest developments on China-Japanese relations and their impact on peace and stability in the Asian Pacific region. While Prime Minister Abe’s high-profile visit to Beijing on October 8 seemed to have started rapprochement between the two Asian powers, Huang notes the fundamental problem still remains unsolved. Reason: China ’s rapid rise and Japan ’s stagnation in the past 15 years have irreversibly changed the strategic balance in Asia . For the first time in history, there are two great powers existing side by side in Asia .  How Beijing and Tokyo handle the challenges in their bilateral relations will exert an enormous impact on regional peace and prosperity, in which the U.S. has a high stake.

The luncheon program is open to the public. It takes place on January 23 at 12 noon at Cityplace Conference Center , 2711 N. Haskell Ave. , Dallas .  Admission is $35 per person, $20 for full-time students. Advance registration is required.  To register, call (214)342-2022 or visit www.jasdfw.org. This program is sponsored by Haynes and Boone, LLP, an international law firm with 10 offices throughout Texas , Washington , D.C. , Mexico City, Moscow and New York . The Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth is a non-profit organization. Founded in 1970, it promotes U.S.-Japan relations through business, cultural, and educational programs.
