Health Project Needs Volunteers for Research
p>WASHINGTON–The
Georgetown University Medical Center is currently conducting a health project
that targets Chinese women. This project aims to promote awareness of breast cancer
among Chinese-American women. It is sponsored by the American Cancer Society,
National Cancer Institute, and Susan G. Komen Breast
Cancer Foundation., designed with Chinese women from the Greater Washington
region (D.C., Virginia and Maryland)
in mind.
Project Coordinator Grace Ma said, “We sincerely invite all
Chinese women over 40 years old, have not had a mammogram for the past 12
months, and have never been diagnosed with breast cancer before, to join our
program.” Call her to volunteer, or to get for more info at (202)687-6922, or
email her at: im@georgetown.edu
She added, “This study does not involve any medical
procedures, nor does it harm participants in anyway. As a participant, you just
have to complete three telephone interviews and watch/read the video/brochure
we provide at the convenience of your home.” After completing all interviews,
volunteers will receive $35 in gift-cards as a token of appreciation. They will
also receive health-related newsletters periodically from the project.
Coordinator Ma also pointed out, “As
one of the few research study that focus on Chinese population, community
participation is not only vital for us to obtain valuable scientific data
regarding breast cancer control, but also can benefit more Chinese women in the
US, since breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among and the number two
killer of Chinese-American women.”
