COMMUNICATIONS ENGINEER

HUGHESVILLE, MD

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SMECO), an electrical distribution cooperative near Washington, D.C., is seeking applicants for the position ofEngineer-Communications.  Primary functions include providing technical assistance in the major functions of design, installation, testing and maintenance of the following areas (1) microwave based communication system and associated multiplexing equipment, (2) Licensed 900 MHz multiple address system (MAS) for substation communications, (3) Licensed VHF mobile radio system consisting of 120 remote and 6 base stations, and (4) Fiber optic communication equipment and associated SONNET Network equipment. Also prepares specifications for communication equipment, devices, and controls for utilization in the cooperative’s SCADA, protective relaying, and LAN traffic; provides the necessary 24-hour technical support for system reliability for all electronic systems.`

Four-year degree required. Minimum five years progressive work experience in electric utility systems design, protection and control, with knowledge of relative power systems applications.
