Jian Ping

Jian Ping was born and raised in China. She is the author of Mulberry Child: A Memoir of China, which has been developed into an award-winning documentary film (directed by Susan Morgan Cooper and narrated by Jacqueline Bisset). Jian Ping is working on her next book, From Changchun to Chicago, in collaboration with her daughter, Lisa. It focuses on their social, cultural, and generational conflicts. Her other publications include Chinese Film Theory (co-editor) and A Fool’s Paradise (translator). She is a columnist at Asian Wisconzine, a monthly magazine in the Midwest, and a contributing writer at Xinhua News, the official media in China. Jian Ping obtained her bachelor’s degree in English from Jilin University, China and dual master’s degrees in Film and International Affairs from Ohio University.
