Phuangthong Malikul received the “Diamond of Siam Award” at the Chandrakasem University in Thailand, presented by Privy General Pichit kulvanich on September 7. She was recognized for promoting Thai fruit and soap carvings in the U.S. For 25 years, she has included the carvings at Asian Arts & Crafts Day on Asian Heritage month, at the National Museum of Natural History.

She and her husband Vichai were on a working vacation in Thailand. The Thai National Science Museum held an exhibit of Vichai’s career scientific illustrations, from Bangkok and since 1967, in the Smithsonian. These included his rare illustrations of mosquitoes from Africa. Vichai also lectured at two Scientific Illustration Workshops.
