APAICS Hosts Panel at Education Conference in California on Dec. 2

On December 2, the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) will host a leadership panel session at the California School Boards Association’s Annual Education Conference, sponsored by State Farm.

The session follows breakfast, hosted by the Asian Pacific Islander School Board Members Association (APISBMA). The association is composed of Asian American and Pacific Islander School Board Members in California.

The panel discussion is entitled “Driving the Political Pipeline: A Road Map from School Board to Expanded Governance and Developing Student Leadership.” It will focus on the importance of building the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) political pipeline from student leadership to local government to the U.S. Congress, as well as AAPI representation on government commissions.

APAICS President and CEO Gloria Chan is moderator. Speakers include President of the Hacienda La Puenta Unified School District Board of Education Jay Chen, Cerritos Councilmember and former school board member Mark E. Pulido, Jonathan “Tana” Lepule, member of the California Commission on AAPIs, and Michael Rossman from State Farm California Public Affairs.

Chen is an APAICS Leadership Academy alumnus, and also Board Member. Pulido is an Internship Program alumnus.

“State Farm recognizes that developing the AAPI leadership pipeline is a critical element in the well-being of the community,” said State Farm Public Affairs Senior Specialist Leslie Moe-Kaiser. For details on the event, contact person is Laila Mohib, lmohib@apaics.org or 202-296-9200.
