Jobseekers Flock to Asian Fortune Job Fair

Young jobseekers, as well as professionals looking for better opportunities in these tough economic times, trooped to the Asian Fortune Diversity Job Fair, held on October 14. Venue was Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center at the Northern Virginia Community College.

Representatives from corporations, small business entrepreneurs, government agencies and organizations saw a steady flow of applicants, as the rain gave way to sunny weather. The Job Fair was a partnership with the community, as participants looked to hire talented professionals with diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Remarked Special Assistant to the Human Resources Director Darlene Herald, of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA): “The steady pace was such that we were able to talk one-on-one with them.”

“We’re looking to hire in several fields,” she said. Vacancies are still available in the administrative, IT, engineering, loan, contracting and environmental protection areas. She advised all jobseekers, “For vacancies in USDA, and indeed, in all the agencies in the federal government, people should visit www.usajobs.opm.gov.”

Human Rights Specialist Nicole A. Rawling of Fairfax Office of Human Rights and Equity Programs said the Job Fair attracted a mixed crowd of young applicants and professionals looking for other opportunities.
