DC Chamber’s Choice Awards Draws Big Crowds, Delivers Big Surprises
Emcee Jim Vance Honored with Surprise Lifetime Legacy Award

Washington DC --The annual Chamber’s Choice Awards gala this weekend solidified the DC Chamber of Commerce’s reputation for putting on DC’s premiere business event. An unqualified success, this year’s celebration spotlighted some of the Washington business community’s best and brightest, chosen for their exceptional leadership, extraordinary standards of professional excellence, and commitment to the community.

A surprising twist came to the evening, as NBC anchor Jim Vance, having served as event emcee for eight years, was himself honored with a Lifetime Legacy Award—completely unbeknownst to him. “I promise you I knew nothing about this—I was not expecting this at all!” exclaimed Mr. Vance, after watching a tribute video featuring longtime colleagues Bob Ryan, Arch Campbell, Bruce Johnson, and of course Doreen Gentzler, among others. “You didn’t have to give me this award,” continued Vance, “but I’m glad you did!”

Capping off the evening was a performance by seven-time Grammy nominated performers En Vogue, who sang several of their hit singles, including Hold On and My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get it). Another highlight was the surprise appearance of singer Eric Benét.

“Every year we try to outdo ourselves, to put on an event that’s even bigger and better than the year before. This year, we truly hit the mark,” said DC Chamber President and CEO Barbara B. Lang. “It’s our way of showing our gratitude to our honorees and all our members for everything they do for the business community, and the city as a whole.”

More than 1,300 of the Washington region’s most prominent leaders and decision-makers were in attendance in the Marriott Wardman Park’s Grand Ballroom, including Mayor Vincent Gray, and several city councilmembers. Addressing the crowd, the Mayor expressed his gratitude to the Chamber and President Barbara Lang “for being the leading champion of business in Washington, DC.”
