D.C. has a new Power Couple. It took People Magazine to dig out the news that celebrated nine-time figure-skating world champion Michelle Kwan, 32 is getting married. Kwan, who has been part of the D.C. community since last year, is engaged to Lt. Clay Pell, 30, a Coast Guard lawyer who is on assignment with The White House National Security Council as director of strategic planning.

Kwan has been serving as a public diplomacy envoy for the State Department, putting her Master’s degree in Foreign Policy to good use. And she volunteers time to travel for the Council to Empower Women and Girls Through Sports. The Pell name may be familiar, as he’s the grandson of the late Senator Claiborne Pell of Rhode Island, the man who created the Pell Grants.

The A List congratulates the couple, who got engaged over the Labor Day holiday, after dating for a year and a half.
