Jim Moriarty Former Envoy Joins BowerGroupAsia

Fairfax, Virginia–BowerGroupAsia, a top Southeast Asia-focused business advisory company in the US, last month announced that former U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh and Nepal Jim Moriarty, has joined the company to lead the development of its new South Asia business.

Moriarty's arrival marks BGA's intent to take its winning formula supporting the world's premier companies in Southeast Asia and the Pacific to South Asia's top markets. Ambassador Moriarty will open business for the company in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

Remarked BowerGroupAsia CEO Ernest Bower: "Jim is among the top American strategists for the entire Asia Pacific region, and he built his hands-on expertise in South Asia on top of an incredible foundation in East Asia. That means that Jim Moriarty is uniquely positioned not only to help our clients interested in South Asia get the granular service we provide in Southeast Asia, but also help them connect the dots as Southeast Asia and its neighbors integrate their economies."

Ambassador Moriarty served as special assistant to the US President and senior director for Asia in the National Security Council before being named ambassador to Nepal, and then Bangladesh. His work in strengthening U.S. ties with India, Pakistan, and developing relations with China is well-known among Asia experts.

"The prospect of helping our clients do business in a region with some of the fastest-growing economies in the world excites me," said Ambassador Moriarty. South Asia holds great potential for those willing to get involved. I look forward to putting together a first-class team in each of these important countries that will help our clients unlock that potential."

After graduating from Dartmouth College, Moriarty joined the Foreign Service and served around the world before his career began to focus on China.

He learned to speak Mandarin Chinese fluently and held a series of jobs with increasing responsibility, including chief of general affairs at the American Institute in Taiwan (1995-98), minister counselor for political affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing (1998-2001), and director for China affairs at the National Security Council (2001-02). He then led the team handling South Asia, East Asia, and Oceania at the NSC as senior director for Asia (2002-2004). He is an exceptional linguist, with intensive training in Chinese Mandarin, Urdu, Nepali, and Bangla.
