Montgomery, Maryland–The Montgomery County Board of Elections is currently seeking registered voters to serve as Election Judges in the November 6 elections. WHIAAPI Director

Seattle, Washington–Kiran Ahuja, Executive Director of the WH Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, was recently in Seattle, where she met AAPI leaders from across the country, visited community sites, and spoke to community activists. She wrote: “I recognized the distinct collaborative spirit of the AAPI community in Seattle–steeped in the AAPI civil rights movement. Seattle’s AAPI community has a lot to share regarding its history, its programs and organizations, and its cultural institutions like The Wing – and we have a lot to learn from it.”

Fellowship on Aging

San Diego, California–MetLife Foundation Journalism Fellowship on Aging is a collaboration of New American Media (NAM) and Gerontological Society of America. It includes a $1500 stipend and a trip to San Diego in November for the training. Each chosen applicant will receive a stipend of $1,500 and all-expenses-paid travel to GSA’s 65th Annual Scientific Meeting. The percentage of older Americans from ethnic communities will double in the coming decades to more than four out of 10 seniors.

 

US-India Dialogue

Washington, D.C.–On July 26, Asia Society’s Washington Office had as its guest Indian Ambassador to the United States Nirupama Rao, who discussed the results of the June 2012 U.S.-India Strategic Dialogue. She focused on U.S.-India cooperation on higher education, as well as on efforts to foster greater bilateral trade and investment flows between the two countries.

Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao should have won his controversial bout against American fighter Timothy Bradley, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) ruled recently, according to Philippine Star.
