Association of Chinese American Physicians (ACAP) celebrates service, friendship and year of the horse

    On 15 February 2014, approximately 60 ACAP members, family and friends rung in the year of the horse by highlighting past and future ACAP activities.  Outgoing president Jay He reported on community engagement activities from 2013.  These included two health fairs in collaboration with Chinese Community and Service Center (CCACC) and a Virginia Community Center; support for an OCA Advocate health fair; lectures on hepatitis B and end-of-life care at CCACC; a workshop for pre-med students at CCACC; a workshop for foreign medical graduates; participation in a meeting on Diabetes in Asians; and expansion of the Pan Asian volunteer health clinic.  ACAP is delighted to report that one of the foreign medical graduate workshop participants has successfully entered a US training program.

    If you are a physician or a physician in training and interested in building relationships with colleagues and serving your community, please consider joining ACAP. Membership is open to all US licensed physicians, medical residents and medical students. Jewels of Asia

On Saturday February 22, the “Jewels of Asia” Award Gala took place at the Westwood Country Club in Vienna Virginia.  The gala is hosted by the Asian American Chamber of Commerce (AACC) and its theme this year was “Champions of Diversity”.  “Diversity is one of the cornerstones of our chamber”, xxxx Cindy Shao, president of the AACC. “We strive to become more inclusive at board, membership and program levels and foster a welcoming culture to bring together business owners and professionals from all diverse Asian communities and all other communities.  Our country and our community is stronger because our diversity.  We are richer because of the different cultures that make up this community.”

The awards were presented to the following individuals and companies. Asian Business Leader Award: Mei Xu, President of Chesapeake Bay Candle Corporate Partner Award: Middleburg Bank Non-Profit Organization Award: BDAG, Touching Heart, AASuccess Champion of Diversity Award: Holland & Knight, Accenture Small Business Award: Lana Furniture, Mangan Jewelers Asian Business Excellence Award: Ampcus, Inc

The gala was one of the most successful ones the chamber has hosted to date.  Guests enjoyed the venue, food, speeches and performances.
