Kollaboration DC Changes Leadership

By Jenny Chen

Five years ago, Christian Oh and Elliot Lee launched Kollaboration DC as part of the larger Kollaboration that seeks to empower by showcasing young Asian American talent in the performing arts. In those last four years, the Kollaboration DC stage has seen talented performers such as spoken word poet George Yamazawa, all-girl group – BLUSH, and Dana Tai Soon Burgess.

However, Oh announced in February that he will be stepping down as the Executive Director of Kollaboration DC. Kollaboration DC 2015 will be headed by Marvin Yueh, who served as assistant director for the last two years. Yueh said his vision for the future is “to continue to establish Kollaboration DC as a [sic] important piece of the Asian American community in the DMV area.” Yueh also said that internally, he hopes that Kollaboration DC will be an experience to train young Asian Americans to be leaders in their community.

1According to both Oh and Yueh, Kollaboration National is pushing for a stronger relationship between different Kollaboration cities and the national headquarters in Los Angeles. “Having personal experience in more than one Kollaboration city, I am very excited to see the Kollaboration Movement become even stronger as our city teams learn how to work together better,” Yueh said.

As for Oh, he says he will continue to support Kollaboration but will focus on other activities to promote Asian American talent in the DC area.
